Introduction

MBBS program in Norman Bethune College of Medicine, Jilin University is a program enrolls international undergraduates and teaches them in English medium for 6 academic years. The whole process of teaching and cultivation of international students is carried out strictly according to related international standards of medical education.

There are more than 200 international students enrolled in Jilin University MBBS program. International students study courses such as Physiology, Histology & Embryology, Human Anatomy, Microbiology, Immunology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Pathology, Pharmacology, Diagnosis, Internal Medicine, Surgery and so on. MBBS program has been given great importance by the College. Each semester, a panel of experts of the college selects competent and responsible teachers with proficiency in English as lecturers and instructors for international students. Experienced and responsible teachers who help international students with adapting to new environment and improving study in China are provided as tutors for some international students.

All the teaching and administrative staffs have been making efforts to achieve the objective of MBBS program and are doing their best to make the international students’ study life here successful. The objective of the MBBS program is to cultivate medical professionals at international standard in the global medical field by fulfilling requirements of medical education of WHO. Professionals equipped with solid basic medical knowledge and certain clinical techniques, with occupational value and ethics, and competent in communication and innovation are nurtured here.

Norman Bethune College of Medicine, Jilin University, with a history of more than 70 years, was named after the outstanding Canadian thoracic surgeon, Norman Bethune because of his selfless devotion to the set-up and running of the institution more than half a century ago. It is an important base with considerable scale and academic ability of medical education and research. It consists of three main teaching hospitals and school of basic medicine. Apart from the three main teaching hospitals, there are more than 30 cooperative hospitals that provide internship resources for medical students of Norman Bethune College of Medicine, Jilin University. Capitalizing on the educational priority of a key comprehensive university, the college aims at cultivating clinical medical professionals at international level by providing medical education that is up to international standard. Since more than half a century, the institution has trained over fifty thousand medical professionals and contributed a lot in the development of medical science, medical education and public health in China.

Full-time undergraduate programs include Clinical Medicine (of five years, six years, seven years and eight years), Dental Medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Rehabilitation Medicine, etc. Currently students enrolled in undergraduate programs include around 2000 Chinese students, about 380 international students studying in MBBS program taught in English medium and more than 100 international students studying in various programs taught in Chinese medium. Around 30 international students are working on their master’s or doctoral degrees here now.

Norman Bethune College of Medicine, Jilin University presently has 5100 faculty and staff members (including staff working in teaching hospitals)，among whom there are 246 professors, 418 associate professors and 106 doctoral degree advisors, the three affiliated comprehensive hospitals totalize 5500 open beds for the patients and the internship students.

The college is also active in international cooperation and exchange programs, and has established ties with 26 educational institutions and academic organizations in countries and districts such as Japan, Canada, USA, Great Britain, Sweden and Hong Kong.
