Introduction

Ningxia Medical University, with the previous name as Ningxia Medical College, was founded in the year of 1958. In 2008, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, it was promoted to a comprehensive medical University. Being the unique higher learning medical institution in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, Ningxia Medical University is located in Yinchuan, the capital city referred to as “A pearl in north of the Great Wall” in the Northwest. In its over 50 years development, the university has seen its tremendous progress and enforcement in specialty development, infrastructure, teaching staff, teaching and research level etc. Nowadays it has become a higher learning medical institution with coordinated development in its scale, construction, quality and efficiency, and is quite influential and popular among the same-leveled higher learning medical schools.

As a comprehensive medical school, Ningxia Medical University covers the majors of Western Medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine and other medical specialties; and has 3 levels teaching programs for the postgraduates, undergraduates and three-year training students. The university consists of 16 secondary schools, 5 affiliated hospitals, 12 teaching hospitals, and 60 field practice bases.


Ningxia Medical University has the total students of about 8000, including around 1000 post graduates and 80 international students, with the teaching staffs of about 3000 (including the Affiliated Hospitals). Among the teaching staffs, there are 146 professors and 253 associate professors.
With the total assets of 833 million Yuan, Ningxia Medical University has two campuses, covering an area of nearly 834,000 m2 and the construction area of 297,000 m2, and with the book collection of more than 730,000 volumes in the library. Since 1958, the university has fostered over 20 thousand medical and health care graduates.

Ningxia Medical University has been actively conducting international exchanges and cooperation. So far it has established academic and friendly collaborative relationships with many medical & health organizations and some universities both at home and abroad, such as that in the United States, Great Britain, Japan, Canada, France, Australia, Italy and the Medical College of Shanghai Jiaotong University, Shandong University, Nanjing Medical University, etc.
