Introduction
Tongji University MBBS program consists of study of basic medicine, clinical medicine and preventive medicine and requires the students of 1-year clinical training. Students who pass the graduation exam (including exam on medical knowledge and exam on clinical skills) will be granted the bachelor’s degree of medicine. The program aims at producing clinicians who have sound professional integrity, solid ground of basic medicine and systematic knowledge of clinical medicine and have acquired basic clinical skills as well as the ability to deal with problems in clinical settings.
Course study requirements: The students should complete 203.5 credits, among which premed pubic courses are 26.5 credits, basic medical courses 48.5 credits and clinical medical courses 54.5 credits. The clinical rotation makes 74 credits.
Medicine is the first discipline Tongji University has offered since it was founded in 1907 by German doctor Paulon as Tongji German Medical School. After 100 years of development, it has become a modern comprehensive university - Tongji University. Medical School of Tongji University currently has a school of basic medical science, a school of preventive medicine and five affiliated hospitals, namely, Tongji hospital, Shanghai No. 10 People's Hospital, East Hospital, Shanghai Pulmonary Hospital, and Shanghai First Maternity and Infant Health Hospital. The Medical School offers undergraduate (five-year program, seven- year program and eight-year program) and graduate programs and awards the students bachelor, master and doctoral degrees. The school has a faculty of 157 teachers, among which 52 are professors or associate professors. The undergraduate students total 884 and graduate students amount to 392.

Tongji University
Tongji University is one of the leading universities directly under the authority of Ministry of Education in China. As a state key university, it has been included in the State-founded Project 211 and the 21st Century Education Rejuvenation Action Plan of China. The history of the university dates back to 1907 when Germans doctor Erich Paulon established Tongji German Medical School in Shanghai. It was officially accepted as a university in 1923 and became a national university in 1927. It had since grown to be recognized, both at home and abroad, as a comprehensive university having five schools, namely, sciences, engineering, medicine, liberal arts and law.
After the establishment of the People's Republic of China in 1949, Tongji University became an engineering university following a nationwide restructuring of institutions of higher learning in 1952. It was the largest university of civil engineering and offered the most specialized engineering programs in China. The university has developed rapidly into a multidisciplinary university featuring sciences, engineering, economics, management, liberal arts and law, with the initiation of the open up policy under the authorization of the central government in 1978.
In 1996 Shanghai Institute of Urban Construction and Shanghai Institute of Building Materials and in 2000 Shanghai Tiedao University merged with Tongji University. Since then, Tongji University has grown into a comprehensive research-oriented university with nine major disciplines, namely, sciences, engineering, medicine, economics, management, liberal arts, law, philosophy and education.
Tongji University has more than 20 specialized colleges offering 82 undergraduate programs, 217 Master degree programs, and 89 PhD programs. There are 13 postdoctoral research centers and 10 state key disciplines at the university. The university has more than 50,000 students, around 4,200 teaching and research staff, among which 718 are full professors or researchers, 1499 are associate professors or associate researchers. Among the staff there are 5 academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and 7 academicians from the Chinese Academy of Engineering. As one of the state key research centers, the university has 14 state key laboratories and engineering research centers either at the state level or ministerial and provincial level. There are 6 hospitals and 3 middle schools affiliated with the university.

Admission Requirements
High school graduate.
Valid TOEFL or IELTS scores-- minimum 93 / 237 / 580 for TOEFL, or 6.0 for IELTS, or certificates that can prove the applicant’s English language proficiency.
