The Sino-British College, Shanghai

The Sino-British College, ShanghaiThe Sino-British College, Shanghai ( SBC) became a fully licensed university college on September 1st, 2006. SBC currently has about 2,000 full-time undergraduate students and over 100 international students from 30 countries. Undergraduate programmes are taught entirely in the English language by a highly qualified international team and programmes are available across the whole spectrum of Business and Engineering. Graduates are awarded degrees from one of the partner British institutions. The costs of tuition and living mean that internationally recognized UK Bachelors degrees taught entirely in English are now obtainable in Shanghai at a significantly reduced cost compared to the same degree offered in the UK.

Location: Shanghai

SBC is the only higher education institution to be awarded a license to offer full degree programmes to multiple overseas universities (the so-called "1 to N Model"), either taught entirely at the Shanghai campus, or with a period of study abroad. The attraction of the multiple study pathway options is that during the first and second years of study at SBC, students have greater flexibility to identify and choose which of the various programmes and which British universities will be best suited to their abilities and future career aspirations.

SBC students at present are able to study undergraduate programmes in either business or engineering related subjects that lead to the award of a bachelor’s degree. Bachelors degree students may study the entire 4 year programme (4+0) at the SBC campus in Shanghai or study for 2 years in Shanghai and then for 2 years in UK (2+2). There are also various options for 3 years in Shanghai with the final year in UK (3+1), or for 2 years in Shanghai, 1 year in UK, and the final year back in Shanghai (2+1+1).

Bachelor degrees in China are normally four years however at SBC international students who are Native English and Near-Native English language speakers can complete the degree in only 3 years (subject to qualifications).

International students are also able to take the SBC Year 1 (which is similar to an "Access Course") in either Business or Engineering that would allow them to bridge the gap to take a Bachelors Degree if they have not completed the International Baccalaureate or A Levels. International Students who have successfully completed the International Baccalaureate or A Levels may take the SBC Year 2 (equivalent to a 1 Year "International Diploma") in Business or Engineering. Both the SBC 1 Year (similar to the "Access Course"), and the SBC Year 2 (1 Year "International Diploma") are accepted as transferable credits at a large number of British universities.

In July 2011, SBC hosted two inaugural graduation ceremonies for students graduating from the University of Huddersfield (Events Management) and from Liverpool John Moores University (Engineering). As the first ever SBC/USST students completing full UK bachelor's degrees entirely in English in Shanghai, the inaugural graduates have been recognised as having achieved great success both in terms of outstanding academic performance, social responsibility through their charity work and high employability with over 96% already employed or in Graduate programmes.

Led by Principal Professor Ian Gow OBE, the SBC team is committed to offering international degree education at the very highest level with continuing support from partner universities in both China and the UK.
