Calligraphy

Regarded as the most abstract and sublime form of art in Chinese culture, calligraphy is often thought to be most revealing of one’s personality. During the imperial era, calligraphy was used as an important criterion for selection of executives to the Imperial court. Unlike other visual art techniques, all calligraphy strokes are permanent and incorrigible, demanding careful planning and confident execution.

Hundreds of different styles of Chinese martial arts have developed over the past two thousand years, many distinctive styles with their own sets of techniques and ideas. There are many themes common to different styles that lead many to characterize them as belonging to generalized “jia” of martial art styles. There are styles that mimic movements from animals and others inspire from various Chinese philosophies.

 

Go

Go

Go is a fascinating board game that originated in China more than 4,000 years ago, also known as Wei Qi. It is said that the rules of Go can be learned in minutes, but that it can take a lifetime to master the game. The game rewards patience and balance over aggression and greed; the balance of influence and territory may shift many times in the course of a game, and a strong player must be prepared to be flexible but resolute.

 

Tai Ji

Tai Ji

Tai Ji Quan, commonly known as Tai Ji, is a internal Chinese martial art. It is often promoted and practiced as a martial arts therapy for the purposes of health and longevity, some recent medical studies support its effectiveness. Tai Ji's basic training forms are well known as the slow motion routines that groups of people practice every morning in hundreds of parks across China and other parts of the world.

Chinese Painting in the traditional style involves essentially the same techniques as calligraphy and is done with a brush dipped in black or colored ink; oils are not used. The most popular materials on which paintings are made are paper and silk. The finished work is then mounted on scrolls, which can be hung or rolled up. Traditional painting also is done in albums and on walls and other media.

 

Ping Pong

Ping Pong

Table tennis is an Olympic sport, “Ping Pong” is the recreational version of the same sport. A sport where two players hit a ball back and forth to each other, with a racket on a table, spin, speed and strategy play an important part in competitive table tennis matches. Ping Pong paddles are usually covered with rubber, and a thin layer of sponge between the plywood and the rubber.
