Introduction
Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine provides a 5 years English taught Traditional Chinese Medicine Acupuncture and Tuina Massage. As a clinical medicine program, it demands students to systematically master the fundamental knowledge and diagnostic and treatment skills of Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture and Tuina Massage as well as fundamental knowledge of Western Medicine; apply syndrome differentiation and correct treatment with Chinese Medicine, acupuncture and Tuina massage to familiar diseases, frequently encountered diseases and serious diseases; fully master the clinical diagnostic, treatment and health care skills in Traditional Chinese Medicine, like shadowboxing, qi-gong, Eight-section Brocade Exercise, etc with the emphasis of traditional Chinese healthcare skills and the clinical application of Study of Chinese Medicine and Study of Acupuncture and Tuina Massage in teaching.
Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine has educated about over 1,000 advanced CM professionals who came from over 100 foreign countries and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan regions. Now Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine has established cooperative relationships with over 50 countries and regions. Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine also serves as a testing branch of China Guangzhou Chinese Medicine Training Center, China Examination Center for Chinese Medicine and Chinese International Examination Center for Acupuncture and Moxibustion. Therefore, until now, the university has been offering training courses in Chinese Medicine, Chinese Materia Medica and acupuncture. Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine
The predecessor of Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine can be dated back to more than 80 years ago which was originally as "Guangdong Chinese Medicine Specialty School". In 1924, in order to save the Chinese Medicine, treasure of China, out of the danger of extinction, predecessors paid great effort and overcame a host of difficulties to establish this school and educated about 900 students of 21 sessions, including Chinese Medicine masters like Liang Hanfen and Liu Chixuan and well-known Chinese Medicine scholars and physicians like Liu Shichang, Deng Tietao, etc. The school was renamed "Guangzhou Traditional Chinese Medicine College" formally in 1956 directly under the administration of the Ministry of Health, as one of the 5 Chinese Medicine universities established the earliest after the foundation of P. R. China. The name "Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine" was adopted in 1995, being one of the first group of universities to confer master’s and doctoral degrees. It enjoys a high reputation in the field of Chinese Medicine in and outside China, owing to the abundant teaching resources and outstanding research level. Looking back to the development history of the university, it not only boasts profound sediment and accumulation of Chinese culture, but also extensively studies western culture and modern medicine, since the growth of Chinese Medicine demands the interaction between the Chinese and Western cultures and medicine, sciences and humanities as well as the ancient and modern.
After 50 years’ vigorous development, the university has flourished into a modern comprehensive research higher educational institute of Chinese Medicine with 13 colleges offering 16 undergraduate academic programs in medicine, engineering, management, science, economy, humanities and education. It boasts 4 state-level priority programs, namely Internal Medicine (Chinese Medicine, CM), Fundamental Clinical Study (CM), Osteopathy (CM) and Gynecology (CM), and 3 first-level academic programs to confer doctoral degrees. Study of Chinese Materia Medica, Based on a magnificent historical inheritance, the university has retained its unique character and charm while promoting rigorous scholarship research, ensuring academic and educational prestige in China and abroad. Among graduates of the university since its founding are many outstanding scholars and great physicians remembered and respected by people. Hence, to study at the university is the dream of many youth who are interested in Chinese Medicine. Presently, the university has over 18,000 students, including more than 12,000 undergraduates and more than 2,000 master's and doctoral candidates.
