Nanjing International School

Nanjing International School (NIS) was founded informally by parents, we believe in 1990. It was a school for very young children only – the product of parents who were concerned that being in China should not present an obstacle to the family being together, nor to the children receiving a good education.

In 2004, NIS moved to its own purpose-built premises in Xianlin College and University Town, on the outskirts of Nanjing. Realising this dream was the culmination of a sustained team effort, lasting several years.

NIS is an International Baccalaureate World School, which delivers its curriculum in the English Language. This means that we are authorised to offer the three programmes of the International Baccalaureate Organisation (IBO).

NIS offer the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) for children age 3 to 10. We offer the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) for students age 11 to 16. We offer the IB Diploma Programme (DP) for students age 16, 17 and 18. For students whose first language is not English, we have a large ESL (English as a Second language) Department. The purpose of ESL is to enable students to participate as fully and as quickly as possible in the mainstream curriculum.
